Many of CloudScope's popular Power BI custom visuals are returning to AppSource, including Image, Video, and Collage, in both uncertified and certified "Pro" versions. These visuals were last available in December, 2023 and in some cases even earlier. What's changed?

Why We Removed the Visuals

Several of our visuals were first released over seven years ago when the expectation was for all visuals to be free. Over time, we learned that providing unlimited support and frequent updates for free visuals was unsustainable. Maintaining compliance with Microsoft’s ever-evolving certification requirements took significant time and resources, so we decided to remove the visuals from AppSource late last year.

Our New Business Model

After careful reflection, we’ve settled on a business model that we believe is sustainable and benefits our users with excellent support and frequent updates.

• Free Use in Power BI Desktop: Our visuals will continue to work without registration in Power BI Desktop, which is typically used by report authors and small teams. This environment will remain free for users.

• Licensing for Power BI Service: When deployed in the Power BI app (Power BI Service), our visuals will require a license after a 30-day trial period. This will follow the AppSource per-user license model, where each report viewer will need a license.

• Support for Other Environments: We also offer licenses for unsupported environments such as Publish to Web and embedded scenarios. For more information, feel free to contact us.

What This Means for Existing Users

If you are currently using one of our legacy free versions, don’t worry—your visual will continue to function as it has. However, please note that these versions will no longer receive updates, enhancements, or security improvements. The new versions are being released as separate visuals and will not overwrite the previous ones.
